We start our year with the return of our “Verano Indiano” rally but this year there will be a change to the norm, it will be open to motorcycles of any age. We have made this change because of the demand from riders of modern bikes who would like to experience the great atmosphere of “Colombres”. The rally will follow a format similar to the October rally, there will be pre-planned routes each day with a lunch stop at approximately the half way point. Route sheets will be provided so you will be able to ride at your own pace. You must display the rally dorsal at the front of your bike, this is important because only bikes displaying the dorsal will be allowed into the square by the Police or Marshalls.
Our traditional rally in October will have an additional touring element that will precede the rally. It will be the 1st Rally Norte de España and for 2017 it will be “Exploring the West” (Explorando el Occidente). We will venture out to western Asturias on Wednesday 5th, where we will be based in a top class hotel that was formerly a palace. We will stay here for 3 nights and each day we will tour on pre-planned routes with the normal lunch stop at the halfway point. We will then return to our hotels in Colombres on Sunday the 8th ready to take part in the main event.
As is normal, there will be a recovery vehicle following the tour group and luggage will be taken ahead by our service van. This tour, like the rally, is only open to motorcycles registered up to 1988. It is most important that this is adhered to because we wish to maintain the classic bike atmosphere that our rally is famous for.
The programme for the 6th International Rally will of course include the daily rides through the wonderful Picos de Europa with lunch stops at a convenient point in the days route. The daily routes vary between 120 – 250 kms, except of course for the hardy souls that will take part in the “Colombres 300”, which is a test of both rider and machine. We are talking MILES, not kilometres, which is actually 480kms…or a bit more depending on the route conditions. This testing event will take place on Friday, while the rest of the rally will enjoy a more relaxed route.
Also featured will be the Bustio – Colombres 12+1 Hill Climb for race bikes, Classic Moto Cross, and the childrens race on Sunday morning; now this is where the racing really gets serious, plus of course the Autojumble in the polideportivo for those looking for an elusive part or another bike for their collection.
Once again, we are grateful to our friends at Brittany Ferries who are offering a 20% discount to our rally attendees. Early reservation is recommended. We have more innovations for 2017 in the pipeline, which will become apparent during the rally, so please, book early to avoid disappointment. We look forward to seeing you in Colombres.
